 Keep the heads up!
« Thread Started on Nov 17, 2008, 1:33pm »

From the lack of general banter and messages on the fourm since the Danderhall game, I take it that people are still upset by the results.
Again we have only ourselves to blame here, but with a massive game on Saturday, we really need to step it up a gear.

One thing was quite clear from the game (and this was also a feature of last season), training on a Thursday night does not give us enough time to recover before the game on Saturday's.

Anyone notice that we only ever get going on the second half of games?

A few of us had a chat about this after the Danderhall game, but it would be good to bring it up again this Thursday, to see if we can sort something out.

Anyway. Get the heads up, and lets make a test for these top of the table crowd (anyone remember Tollcross last year. Played 9. Won 9, until they faced the mighty Barca.)

Were are more than a match for anyone at Arboretum, lets prove it this weekend.

Do you think we'd be better changing the training night, the thing is finding the night to suit all with availability and then cost factor.

We def need to look at the £££ for training - but thats for committee to worry about the now

I agree with both of you, we didn't play well and deserved to lose against a team who were driven to win, but we're actually still doing well and we're very difficult to play against at Arboretum.

The training issue is probably true, from the sideline it did look like there were some tired legs out there. That's not a dig at Jamie and John, in fact the toughness of the training is exactly what has gotten us to where we are already.

I've mentioned this to a few of the guys already, but I would suggest a physically demanding session on Tuesday/Wednesday (~90min?) and a light physically but plenty of ballwork/tactics sesh on Thursday (~60min?).

I know cost and availability is always an issue, but any thoughts?

Crawf, how much more would it cost the club if we did have an extra training sesh in the week?

Who would actually be available on a Tue/Wed and what time?

It all depends on venue. If were doing mainly fitness work or all fitness work would we need an astro or a facility or just a place to meet and a big enough area.

This could be an idea though Tom.

It has been mentioned we could organise everyone a lift and go to Dalkeith for cheap but I think its a treck and a half for some folk.

I tried to source some other training venues today and without a share or someone in the know, we'll be stuffed for a move the now.

Maybe we could go to meadowbank stadium and do some track work or some stair work??? But again its the cost of it that comes into it again.

it might just be me but i think as a team we.re using last thurs traing session as an excuse for danderhall beating us on sat. now it might just be me, but sat was the first time i.ve heard anyone complain about still being sore/tight after training since pre season. we done 1 thing different and i dont think anyone thought it would have the effect it did s**t happens we get on with it. danderhall won on sat because of 1 thing they WANTED TO FIGHT FOR THE WIN and WE NEVER. does'nt matter when we train or how we train if we're not prepared to roll up the sleeves, dig in and fight for it we will always come up second best against teams like danderhall.

I agree with the skipper that we lacked the same fight, although tired legs certainly had an impact this tmie in my opinion - Saturday was the first time I'd felt less than 100% following a Thursday session, every other week has been totally fine. We will have learned a lesson on which exercises we should try and avoid from now on at training . I am more than happy to keep training on a Thursday.
